VIENNA, MAY 20 – How to strengthen civil society engagement in crime prevention was one topic discussed today during an informal dialogue at the margins of the 30th Session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ). Attending the meeting were Ambassador Alessandro Cortese, the Committee Chair and Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna, Anna Alvazzi of the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (the umbrella organization for civil society engagement around the UN CPCJ Programme) and representatives of the Civil Society Unit of UNODC.
Ms. Alvazzi addressed the dialogue on behalf of NGOs. The 30th Session of the CcPCJ opened on May 17 and will close tomorrow. Among the items discussed today were world crime trends and emerging issues and responses in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice, a follow-up to the Fourteenth UN Congress on Crime Prevention, which was held in Kyoto last March, and preparations for the Fifteenth Congress.
