Food Systems: Tripodi held meetings to push Rome’s bid to EXPO 2030

ROME, JULY 26 – The Italian Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, met with the Ministers of Agriculture of Colombia, Comoros, Djibouti, Lebanon, Nepal, Rwanda and Seychelles and the Head of the Gabon delegation on the sidelines of the ongoing UN Food Systems Summit at FAO.

The meetings aimed at promoting Rome’s bid to host the 2030 edition of the Universal EXPO. The Undersecretary emphasised that Rome EXPO 2030 is an opportunity for collaboration between Italy and host countries capable of fostering the development of joint projects for the management of global challenges.

For Italy, Tripodi continued, the candidacy is a national priority supported by European institutions, which have recognised the quality and intrinsic value of the project. The Undersecretary explained to her interlocutors how the Italian capital project proposes to be a platform for the creation of important economic synergies: in Rome, citizens and companies, public and private will be able to meet to create important long-term collaborations. In fact, the national pavilions will remain at the exclusive disposal of the participating countries even after the Exposition, fostering the emergence of a hub of academic cooperation and scientific research capable of offering the host countries a permanent showcase in an EU country, with the benefits in terms of visibility and economic returns that this entails.
