NEW YORK, MAY 12 – The United Nations and the Italian Carabinieri Corps will collaborate to jointly develop training programs on environmental protection. Today, a letter of intent was signed at the United Nations Headquarters in New York between representatives of the two institutions.
The document was signed on behalf of the Carabinieri Corps by Gen. C.A. Antonio Pietro Marzo, Commander of the Carabinieri Environmental and Agri-food Forestry Units, and by Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support of the United Nations, in the presence of the Permanent Representative of Italy to the UN, Amb. Maurizio Massari.
The Carabinieri Corps and the Department of Operational Support of the United Nations (DOS) will explore opportunities for collaboration in training, capacity development, knowledge exchange, resource identification, and funding initiatives to promote common objectives in the fields of environmental management and protection. Collaboration actions will be in accordance with United Nations guidelines and may take place at the Carabinieri International Excellence Center for the Environment and Territory Care in Sabaudia or at other facilities in Italy or abroad, using specially constituted Mobile Training Teams.
Currently, and until May 18th, an exhibition is taking place at the Un Headquarters showcasing the nature protection and conservation activities carried out by the Carabinieri Environmental, Forestry, and Agri-food Units. The exhibition, organized by the Carabinieri as part of their environmental diplomacy initiatives aimed at promoting Italy’s commitment to environmental protection, is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security. It is coordinated by the Permanent Representation of Italy to the United Nations, with the participation of the Italian Air Force and in collaboration with Leonardo and Telespazio Spa. (@OnuItalia)
