GENEVA, MARCH 15 – The Deputy Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Marie Sol Fulci, addressed today in the Interactive dialogue with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on violence against children, Najat Maalla M’jid, in the framework of the 49th session of the Human Rights Council.
“Italy attaches the utmost importance to the protection of the rights of children, especially those in vulnerable situations and children who are victims of all forms of violence and exploitation, including in the digital environment”, she said, and also expressed appreciation for the focus of the Special Representative’s report on the interlinkage between children’s rights and the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. In this regard, it was recalled that Italy adopted last January its fifth Action Plan on the rights of children, boys and girls, which embraces the view of realizing children’s right to live free from any form of violence, both online and offline, and accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
“Our Action Plan is inspired by the principles of education, non-discrimination, equal opportunities for all and empowerment, and has been developed thanks to the meaningful participation of children, boys and girls, through an online consultation and focus groups”, explained the Deputy Permanent Representative of Italy. She also stated that Italy aims at implementing a public and integrated system of services, able to provide different, multi-layered and coordinated forms of prevention and protection for children, which can be achieved within families, through education, social, cultural and health services, and within communities.
