NEW YORK, DECEMBER 11 – The Italian Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, met the Italian Junior Professional Officers based at the United Nations in New York. “What a team!”, the Italian Mission remarked on Twitter after the meeting which allowed the opportunity to take stock of the reciprocal collaboration on several issues, including Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ “Our Common Agenda”.
The JPO Programme, which is the result of an ECOSOC resolution adopted in 1961, offers the possibility for young people qualified in the field of International Relations to carry out a two-year training and professional experience in UN Organizations and Agencies.
In Italy the initiative is funded through the Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, and is managed by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations (UN/DESA).
Italy, which joined the Programme in the 1970s, has sponsored over 1,700 JPOs (source: UNDESA). (@OnuItalia)
