GENEVA, DECEMBER 18 – On 14 December 2023, the Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Vincenzo Grassi, handed over to the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Daren Tang, the instrument of ratification of the Act of Geneva of The Hague Agreement, concerning the international registration of industrial designs and models, made in Geneva on 2 July 1999, and ratified by Italy on 22 September 2023.
The adoption of the law entails the modification of article 155 of the Industrial Property Code, relating to the filing of international applications for designs and models.
Following the ratification, the Italian owner of an industrial design or model can obtain protection in the 96 States parties to the treaty with a single international application, presented in a single office and subject to a single tax.
The Geneva Act is of particular importance for Italy, among the world leaders in terms of number of requests for registration of industrial designs and models. (@OnuItalia)
