HLPF: climate change Envoy Modiano kick-starts his mission at the UN

NEW YORK, JULY 14- The Italian Special Envoy for climate change, Alessandro Modiano, met today with the Assistant Secretary General and CEO of the Un Global Compact, Sanda Ojiambo. Modiano is in New York for the High Level Political Forum. Private sector and youth engagement are part of Italy’s climate action and Sustainable Development strategy, said Modiano, who was accompanied in New York by the Director general for Circular Economy at the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Silvia Grandi.
Modiano, who was appointed last January, kick-started his mission to the UN yesterday, July 13, with a meeting with the young  AOSIS Fellows, sponsored by an Italian programme. “Italy is proud of its partnership with AOSIS and will continue to work with SIDS (the Small Island Developing States) on climate action and Sustainable Development.

Modiano, 57, is the reference point for all external climate change policies, the ministry of Foreign Affairs said on the appointment following the example set by other countries to appoint prominent figures to similar roles, such as John Kerry in the United States. (@OnuItalia)
