NEW YORK, DECEMBER 22 – From Italy and the world to the Five Boroughs of New York in the season of giving: the Italian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York is one of over 25 UN member states participating to City Hall’s initiative to brighten the holidays of young New Yorkers in need. “Thanks @NYCService for this opportunity. Best wishes to our beautiful host City and to all New Yorkers”, the Mission said on its Twitter account.
More than 3,700 NYC children and youth will receive holiday gifts over the next week through the City #SecretSnowflake gift-giving initiative. Over 2,000 Mayor’s Office employees, corporate volunteers, and more worked together to answer handwritten letters and provide gifts for children and families within the Administration for Children’s Services, Department of Homeless Services, Department of Social Services, and the Office to Combat Domestic Violence systems.
As part of this effort, the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs also reached out to many international partners in the diplomatic and consular community. This year, representatives from more than 25 countries collected gifts and other items for over 165 children and their families. Through this initiative, NYC Service has helped to ensure youth in need are able to have a festive holiday season, helping them to receive joyous gifts, including board games, cards, books, movies, toys but also crucial necessities, such as clothing, shoes and coats for the winter.
