Andrea Bocelli and the United Nations join forces to empower young people through music

NEW YORK, DECEMBER 11 – “Empowering Youth through Music”: in a conference today in the ECOSOC chamber, the Andrea Bocelli Foundation and the United Nations have joined forces to share the power of music in overcoming geographical boundaries and linguistic barriers and connecting otherwise distant cultures by evoking universal emotions.

Bocelli“Every conflict and every act of violence is a defeat for everyone, for those who provoke them, and for the victims,” said Maestro Bocelli during the event co-organized by the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations. Two programs of the Foundation – Voices of and GlobaLab – both leveraging the practice and relationships of the choir, experiment with pilot educational models to build participatory educational spaces that involve the entire community. “Education is at the center of sustainable development goals,” said Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed. “We must transform the system to ensure that it meets current needs and that no child is left behind.”

BocelliOn his part, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, Permanent Representative of Italyt to the UN, emphasized that “in an increasingly complicated and interconnected, but at the same time fragmented world, the education of new generations is extremely important. Music is not only an art form but an extremely powerful and unifying force capable of breaking down barriers and building bridges.”

The philanthropic organization created by Maestro Andrea Bocelli 12 years ago is committed to promoting national and international projects aimed at breaking down barriers built by disease, poverty, and social marginalization. The Foundation has presented its initiatives through the voices of young beneficiaries of its projects and the singer-songwriter and author of the “The Shape of the World” project, Giovanni Caccamo.
