ICC at 25: Italy’s Massari meets ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan

NEW YORK, JULY 12 – Ahead of the 25th anniversary of the International Criminal Court, the Italian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, met with the ICC Prosecutor, Karim Khan.

The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court was adopted on 17 July 1998. The Statute is the founding treaty of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which seeks to protect people from genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and the crime of aggression.

123 countries are States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Since its creation, Italy’s support for the Court has been unwavering, remarked the Italian Mission on Twitter. On July 17 Italy, together with Canada and Lichtenstein, will sponsor a full day event to mark the 25th anniversary and map the strategic vision for the next decade: “How to ensure consistent and sustainable support for the ICC”.
