NEW YORK, JUNE 1 – The Italian diplomat Diego Cimino was elected today Vice Chair of the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly along with colleagues from Uruguay, Ghana, Thailand and Bulgaria.
“Grateful for the trust accorded by the Italian Mission to the Un and to the WEOG (Western European and others Group) Countries and ready to serve in the Bureau”, said Cimino on Twitter after the election pledging his commitment to advance resolutions for the acceleration of the Global Goals.
In 2017, fresh from a Law degree from the University of Catania, he was he was included by Forbes in its list of “30 Under 30” for the category Law and Policy. At the time he was only 25 and the youngest diplomat at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The United Nations General Assembly Second Committee (also known as the Economic and Financial Committee or ECOFIN or C2) is one of the six main committees of the United Nations General Assembly. It deals with global finance and economic matters.
