International Day of Sport: Inter Campus back at the UN with Javier Zanetti

NEW YORK, APRIL 6 – Inter Campus is back at the UN with Javier Zanetti. On the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace organized by the Department of Global Communications (DGC) in collaboration with the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations (UNDESA), the Milan’s team’s 25-years old social initiative has once again been at the center of a session dedicated to the role of sport as a means to tackle climate change, promote gender equality and combat racial discrimination.

Giornata Mondiale dello Sport: Inter Campus

“Sport can change the world”, said Zanetti, Vice President and Inter Campus Ambassador: “Not only we are teaching children something, most of the time they teach us. Often these young people need affection, face problems and difficulties, but through the project we try to unite them and give them hope, thanks to a specific methodology of social work, so as to transmit their sense of belonging”. And again: “Football has a great dimension and can reach anyone. We must transmit human values: we must combat all forms of discrimination, we must carry out development projects wherever possible. This is the path to change the world”.

Psychologist and Technical Manager of Inter Campus, Silvio Guareschi focused on the impact of the initiative in Israel and Palestine, and how “it is able to open spaces for dialogue in contexts where conflict and violence are part of daily life and, in particular, is able to stimulate the dynamics of peace and efforts for reconciliation in Jerusalem, where meetings and socialization between Israeli and Palestinian children are promoted”. The project benefits everyone, children, families, coaches, and the local community as a whole.

Over thirty children from the US project, all coming from the Joseph Pulitzer school in Queens where Inter Campus works to promote ethnic integration, were invited to attend the event – strictly wearing a Nerazzurri jersey – meeting Zanetti and visiting UN Headquarters

The Nerazzurri delegation was also involved in some important institutional meetings, one with Ambassador Maurizio Massari, the Permanent Represnetative of Italy to the United Nations, and one with Fabrizio Di Michele, Consul General of Italy in New York, to strengthen and consolidate the shared commitment, which Inter Campus puts in place every day, for the protection of the rights of thousands of boys and girls.
