WASHINGTON, FEBRUARY 9 – Ambassador Maurizio Massari, the Italian Permanent Representative to the UN, was in Washington today with the other members of the ECOSOC Bureau for “intense and fruitful” consultations with the main international financial institutions, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
Focus of the talks was the need of intensifying the partnership between the United Nations and the two organizations, expanding financing for the Sustainable Development Goals, and managing debt sustainability at times of crises. “2023 is an action year for multilateralism and sustainable development”, said the Italian mission on Twitter.
Italy currently holds, with Chile, Indonesia and Zimbabwe, one of the four vice-presidency of ECOSOC. The Bureau of the Economic and Social Council was elected by the Council at large last July. Its main functions are to propose the agenda, draw up a programme of work and organize the session with the support of the United Nations Secretariat. (@OnuItalia)
