NEW YORK, JANUARY 31 – Ambassador Maurizio Massari, Italian Permanent Representative to the UN, had a bilateral meeting today with UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.
In view of the first anniversary of the Russian invasion in February, the war in Ukraine was discussed as well as , in view of the situation in Libya. The overall revitalization of Italy’s role within the UN system in 2023 was also on the agenda, on account of Italy’s leading role in humanitarian, food security, women’s rights, peacebuilding and economic and social issues.
Italy holds this year’s the Vice Presidency of ECOSOC, serves on the Peacebuilding Commission and is also Vice President of the Board of UN Women – all central bodies in the U.N. system committed to sustainable development, preventive diplomacy and women’s rights, respectively. It also leads the Group of Friends on food security, a topic dear to our country since the days of Expo Milano 2015. (@OnuItalia)
