Ukraine: Italy will contribute 25 million euros in humanitarian aid

ROME, MARCH 10 – Italy will contribute to the international humanitarian response to the Ukrainian crisis with 25 million euros. The Italian funding, approved yesterday by resolution of the Deputy Foreign Minister Sereni, responds to the appeals of the United Nations system and the International Red Cross Movement presented following the worsening of the humanitarian situation in the country.

It will allow the main multilateral bodies to provide assistance, including through civil society organizations, to the most vulnerable people left in Ukraine or fled to neighboring countries, which are receiving them with commendable generosity. This is announced in a statement of the Farnesina. In particular, the activities of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRSS) will be supported.

The contributions are a tangible sign of solidarity and closeness of Italy to the Ukrainian population, affected by an unjust and unprovoked attack, and are in addition to the assistance effort already put in place with a support to the general budget of the Ukrainian State worth 110 million euros and with donations of goods for the first reception in Ukraine and neighboring countries.
