ROME, FEBRUARY 9 – Italy welcomed the conclusion of the Afghanistan-U.S. Joint Statement for Peace and the settlement between the U.S. and the Taliban, consistent with its belief that there can be no military solution to the Afghan conflict, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on its web side.
“It is our hope that inclusive intra-Afghan negotiations will start soon paving the way for lasting peace and security in the country, which can only be sustainable if shaped and accepted by all Afghans and anchored in the communities across the country”, the statement of the Ministry added.
The agreement was signed today in Doha. It lays out a timetable for the final withdrawal of United States troops from Afghanistan, the Central Asian country once unfamiliar to many Americans that now symbolizes endless conflict, foreign entanglements and an incubator of terrorist plots. (@OnuItalia)
