Italy’s MFA “Bike to Work” and “Plastic Free” initiatives win Sustainable PA Award

ROME, MAY 15 – Three projects of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, two in the field of environmental protection and sustainable mobility and the third for the digitization of consular services, received theSustainable PA Award. 100 projects to achieve the 2030 Agenda goals, which were assigned yesterday at the PA 2019 Forum.

With the “Bike Bike to work” initiative, the Ministry intends to encourage all of its employees to come to work by bicycle, while “Plastic free Farnesina” project is aimed at reducing the consumption of plastic by the 2,000 people (employees and visitors) who who on any average day frequent the Ministry by installing drinking water dispensers on all the floors of the building.

The third project is called “F.I.C.O (Itinerant Official Honorary Consul)”: he Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made available mobile devices to the the large number of Honorary Consuls who work abroad for the collection of biometric data which they then forward electronically to the Consulate of reference for the issuing of electronic passports.
