Disabilities: Italian Minister Locatelli met High Commissioner Türk

ROME, JANUARY 25 – The disability reform being implemented in Italy and its commitments to the inclusion and full participation in social, civil, and political life of people with disabilities were on the agenda of today’s meeting between the Italian Minister for Disabilities Alessandra Locatelli and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk. The talks took place in Rome at Chigi Palace, the headquarters of the Italian Prime Minister.

In a statement the meeting was described as “fruitful and cordial”. Locatelli outlined the topics that will be at the center of the first “G7 – Inclusion and Disability” scheduled to take place in Umbria in mid October. “Collaboration among all institutional levels is essential to prioritize the individual and improve the quality of life for everyone,” she said, thanking the High Commissioner for this opportunity for dialogue and sharing of strategies: “Only together we can implement concrete actions to streamline bureaucracy, simplify, and move from inclusion to the enhancement of talents and skills of every person, which is the true great challenge for the future.”

Furthermore, the Minister reiterated Italy’s commitment to promoting concrete policies and actions to ensure equal opportunities and full participation for all citizens, regardless of their abilities. “Collaboration between national and international institutions is crucial to address the challenges related to disability and build a more inclusive and equitable society for all.” (@OnuItalia)
