NEW YORK, JULY 11 – A High Level Political Forum co-hosted by Italy with the missions of Costa Rica, Indonesia and the MOPAN Network was held today at UN Headquarters to discuss sustainable funding initiatives at a time of poly-crises.
“Italy is proud to be among UN major donors and to continue to support through core and thematic resources”, said Ambassador Maurizio Massari, the Italian Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. The meeting offered the platform for insightful discussion on why to invest in “quality multilateral funding” targeted to achieve the 2030 Agenda sustainable development goals.
The event featured two panel discussions on mulitlateral mechanisms for impactful and sustainable funding opportunities and the role of member states and the importance of quality funding in the mutilateral system.
MOPAN is an independent network of 22 member States who work together – as responsible shareholders and funders – to improve the performance of the multilateral system, making it stronger, better and smarter. Italy holds the 2023 chairmanship.
Together, MOPAN members, observers and collaborators provide nearly USD 70.6 billion in annual contributions to and through the multilateral system – the majority of the system’s ODA funding. MOPAN is therefore well-positioned to support member states to push for greater effectiveness in the multilateral system, helping organisations that they fund to become more fit-for-purpose, relevant and results-focused – through accountability and learning.
