Bosnia: Massari meets High Representative Schmidt on peaceful dialogue

NEW YORK, MAY 10 – The Italian Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, had today an insightful discussion with the High Representative in Bosnia, Christian Schmidt, on a peaceful and  democratic dialogue as key to overcome stability challenges in the region.

Italy, along with the European Union, remains steadily committed to the stability and security in the Western Balkans and the European integration of the Region, the UN European Mission said on Twitter. High Representative Schmidt met yesterday with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary Di Carlo, for a discussion on political and security environment, and overcoming stability challenges through dialogue.

The High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, together with the Office of the High Representative (OHR) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, were created in 1995 immediately after the signing of the Dayton Agreement which ended the 1992–1995 Bosnian War. The purpose of the High Representative and the OHR is to oversee the civilian implementation of the Dayton agreement. They also serve to represent the countries involved in the implementation of the Dayton Agreement through the Peace Implementation Council (PIC), which chooses the High Representative. (@OnuItalia)
