World Water Conference: Pichetto met PGA Kőrösi; other bilaterals

NEW YORK, MARCH 23 – In New York for the first World Water Conference in 46 years, Italy’s Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin met with the Bonn-based UN Undersecretary General of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, Ibrahim Thiaw.

The talks offerend an opportunity to confirm Italy‘s support to fighting desertification, also by joining the International Drought Resilience Alliance (IDRA) and by allocating 6 Millions Euros to UNCCD’s project for Sahel’s Landscape Restoration.

Pichetto also met, among others, his colleague from Tunisia, Abdelmonaem Belaati, to whom he confirmed Italy’s commitment and the opening to sign a new memorandum of understanding on sustainable development and cooperation on the environment. Teere was also a fruitful meeting with the President of the UN General Assembly Csaba Kőrösi. “The Water Agenda is a key priority of our multilateral action for sustainable development, also through the Italian Fund for Climate of €840millions a year until 2026.
