NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 7 – The Italian Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, had a fruitful meeting with the Assistant-Secretary General for Africa, Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee.
The situation in the Sahel and in the Horn of Africa were among the issues on the agenda. Massari shared Italy’s concern for the region’s fragility. He also commended the signing of the Agreement of Peace in Ethiopia and said that Italy will keep supporting the United Nations efforts in promoting social & political stability.
On November 3 the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the important agreement on the cessation of hostilities between the Government of Ethiopia and the TPLF. “It is a commendable step from all the actors involved in the African Union led-talks”, said the Ministry, assuring that Italy remains ready to help achieve a lasting peace in the Country.
A career diplomat from Ghana with more than 30 years of experience in international affairs and diplomacy with her Foreign Ministry, Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee was appointed last year as Assistant Secretary-General for Africa in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations.
