Women Mediators: Massari meets WIIS President Teodorescu ahead of High Level panel

NEW YORK, OCTOBER 19 – Meeting with Loredana Teodorescu, Head of EU and International Affairs at Istituto Luigi Sturzo in Rome and president of the Italian Chapter of WIIS (the most important organization in the world that promotes women’s leadership and professional development in the field of peace and security), the Italian Permanent Representative to the UN, Maurizio Massari, reiterated Italy staunch commitment to advancing the Women Peace and Security Agenda and to promoting the role of women mediators.

Teodorescu is in New York for a side event co-organized this coming Friday by WIIS with UN Women and the Missions of Italy and Morocco in the context of the Women Peace and Security Week. The panel discussion comes at a time of unprecedented pressure on peace mediation. While the space for women to participate pertinently in the high-level peace processes is still not enough, the number of women who contribute meaningfully to create the basis for peace and stability in different regions worldwide is high, The event will further amplify the work and visibility of what women mediators do at the local level, and discuss, with the members ol the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network (MWMN)
on how to meet the current challenges by suggesting concrete recommendations and action-onented changes based on the lesson learnt.

The key questions that this event will try to address are: how are women mediators are making a difference at the local level, and can this be scaled up and expanded in the future? what is the added value of networks such as the MWMN and how to further support their work, despite the current challenges?

Loredana Teodorescu will address the panel along with Ambassador Massari and Irene Fellin, Nato Secretary General’s Special Representative for WPS and former President of WIIS Italy. (@OnuItalia)
