NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 2 – On the front row of the global endeavor on urban regeneration, circularity and zero emission, Italy welcomed today UN delegates heading to the general Assembly meetings or to the iconic Vienna Cafe’ for a good cup of espresso coffee in honor of the candidacy of the city of Rome to host the 2030 World Exposition.
On October 7th 2021, Prime Minister Mario Draghi expressed Italy’s desire to host the 2030 EXPO with a formal letter to the Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions, Dimitri Kerkentzes. Russia, South Korea, Ukraine, and Saudi Arabia have also submitted bids to hold the event, but the Russian bid on behalf of Moscow was withdrawn following the invasion of Ukraine. The host country of Expo 2030 will be elected in 2023 by BIE member states
“People and territories: urban regeneration, inclusion and innovation”, is the theme of the Italian bid put forward by the Italian Government, in partnership with the City of Rome, its citizens, local authorities and the Country as a whole. EXPO 2030 will take place from 25th April to 25th October.
By 2050, it is predicted that metropolitan cities will be home to around two thirds of the world’s population. It is therefore essential to focus today on the world we wish to live in tomorrow, and Expo 2030 represents a unique, once-in- a-lifetime opportunity for us to do this. “We can reinvent our urban habitat and, in so doing, ensure that we successfully meet the one of the greatest challenges of our times: simultaneously nurture both environmental sustainability and development”, states the brochure illustrating Rome’s candidacy.
