NEW YORK, 9 GIUGNO – Addressing today the Management Segment of ECOSOC, Italy reaffirmed its strong support to the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) and UNITAR, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research. “Knowledge is an indispensable tool for the work of the United Nations”, an Italian delegate said: “Italy is proud to host the UNSSC in Turin”.
The complex was originally built by the Italian government in 1961 to celebrate the centenary of Italy’s unity and the year, 1861, when Turin was united Italy’s first capital. The buildings represented the nation’s different regions and are configured in the shape of a boot. Gifted to the United Nations in 1964, the campus – now organized into five clusters, representing the world’s continents – welcomes people from all over the world to live and learn together in a stimulating international environment. Purpose-built rooms and state-of-the-art equipment help to maximize learning and knowledge-sharing, while residential services provide for a pleasant stay, including cultural and social events in the evenings and on weekends.
