Crimea: member states including Italy reaffirm territorial integrity of Ukraine

NEW YORK, MARCH 26 – On the 7th anniversary of the adoption of the General Assembly Resolution on the “Territorial Integrity of Ukraine”, 45 member states, including Italy, issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, political independence, unity and territorial integrity.

Following is the full statement stating that, despite the clear demands of the General Assembly, the Russian Federation has not stopped its temporary occupation of Crimea: “On the contrary, it continues fragrant human rights violations and abuses and military build-up on the peninsula”.

The joint statement defines Russia’s actions “of global concern, inconsistent with international law, including the UN Charter, and also contrary to the Helsinki Final Act, as well as international humanitarian and human rights law”. Russia’s attempts to legitimize the attempted annexation of Crimea “are not, and will not be recognized”, the member states said, condemning Russia’s “continued destabilization of Ukraine” and urging the Russian Federation to immediately end its occupation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
