Human Rights: Italy participates in Universal Periodic Review

GENEVA, JANUARY 19 – As member of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Italy is participating in the 37th session of the Universal Periodic Review Working Group, a mechanism of review between the Member States of the United Nations on the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms. The session began today in Geneva.

During this session, which will end on January 29, the human rights situation in the following countries will be examined: Federated States of Micronesia, Lebanon, Mauritania, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Australia, Saint Lucia, Nepal, Oman, Austria, Myanmar, Rwanda, Georgia, Nauru, Sao Tome and Principe.

Italy will intervene by formulating recommendations in the interactive dialogue dedicated to each of the States under review, confirming the Italian commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights and its support to the important role carried out by the United Nations in this area.
