EU: Paolo Gentiloni to coordinate Sustainable Development Goals

BRUSSELS, NOVEMBER 15 – The President-elect of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, entrusted to the Commissioner-designate for the Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, the mandate of coordinating the Sustainable Development Goals, the spokesman of von der Leyden, Eric Mamer, confirmed.

The Sustainable Development Goals are a series of targets which world leaders set for themselves in 2015 with the aim of successfully achieving the UN’s 2030 Agenda. Since the beginning, the European Union expressed a strong willingness to be a pioneer in all sectors, and has thus established a strategy to achieve all the needed results, the coordination of which will be in the hands of Italy’s former Prime Minister.

There are 17 Sustainable Development Goals: ending poverty and hunger, fighting global warming, achieving global and local stability, reducing inequalities, constructing equal and resilient societies with prosperous economies. Until today, coordination efforts were the responsibility of Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis.(@OnuItalia)
