ROME, OCTOBER 8 – On the 10th of October, the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs will host the IX edition of the Italo-Latin America and Caribbean Conference. The event, first launched in 2003 in Milan, is organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with IILA, the Italo-Latin American Institute to highlight cooperation and multilateralism between Italy, Latin American and Caribbean countries. Since 2007 the conference has had a more political and intergovernmental dimension, other than just an economic one.
This year’s theme, ‘Together for sustainable growth’, was selected in light of the fact that the global community has increasingly demonstrated -through the Paris climate agreement, the 2030 UN Agenda, in the G7 and European Union- that the aim of economic development should no longer be profit, but rather social progress and environmental sustainability.
The Conference has two objectives: construct an overview of the current cooperation between Italy, Latin American and the Caribbean, and identify thereafter new possible areas for collaboration which will include new initiatives in the areas of digital networks and green economy. (SB@OnuItalia)
