ILO: Undersecretary Cominardi attends 100th anniversary Conference

GENEVA, JUNE 18 – Undersecretary of State for Labour and Social Policies, Hon. Claudio Cominardi, addressed the plenary session of the 108th International Labour Conference, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the International Labour Organization.

Undersecretary Cominardi stressed how measures adopted by Italy are perfectly in line with recommendations made by the ILO Global Commission on the Future of Work, highlighting in particular the introduction of a citizenship income with a future perspective of an unconditioned universal income made necessary by technological revolution and social and economic transformations.

Italy is one of the 9 drafters of the oldest UN organization Constitution and hosts in Turin its International Training Centre. Last April the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the City of Turin agreed to allocate funds to maintain and renovate part of the premises of the ITC. The Ministry’s contribution will be as much as three million euro, while the Centre will allocate up to 800,000 euro from its dedicated fund for this purpose.

ILO was born out of the rubble of the First World War, as the victors met to draw up the Treaty of Versailles, where they affirmed the need for social justice in the service of a universal and lasting peace. The 108th International Labour Conference, marking the 100th anniversary of the organization opened on June 10 and will close on June 21. Over 5.000 delegates are attending, including 40 heads of state.(@OnuItalia)
