GENEVA, MAY 21 – The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, met today in Geneva with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration, Antonio Vitorino. Among the topics discussed, the cooperation with Italy in migratory flows management, with a focus on the situation in crisis areas.
Director Vitorino put the accent on the importance of the cooperation, considered to be strategic, with Italy: “A win-win partnership”, he described it; he also recognized the important contribution of Italy to cooperations projects focused on development and stabilization of the regions of origin of migrants.
They explored together new possible strategies and concrete partnerships in the field of migration, also with third countries, solidarity mechanisms between countries in the migration flows management and the intention of strenghtening cooperation, especially in the Sahel.
Del RE is in Geneva to attend the meetings of the 72th World Health Assembly. Today, at a WHA side event, she introduced the Italian initiative of an International Day against childhood diarrhea. (@OnuItalia)
