Italy with UNOPS and UNRWA fund renovation project to improve lives of Palestinain refugees in Jordan

AMMAN, MARCH 21 A new $2 million project will improve the lives of Palestinian  refugees living in Hitteen Camp in Jordan.  A new project  financed by the Italian Cooperation will see the renovation of 100 houses in the camp.

The renovated homes will offer improved safety and security for 500 Palestinian refugees. The project will help preserve the dignity of the residents by improving their living standards, as well as contribute to improved sanitary and public health conditions.

“UNOPS is pleased to contribute to the improvement of living conditions in Hitteen Camp and support the Government of Jordan in its effort to deliver quality services and shelters, for the benefit of the camp residents in need,” said Bana Kaloti, UNOPS Middle East Director.

The project will also provide livelihood opportunities – camp residents will make up 50 per cent of the workers implementing construction activities.

The $2 million project is funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. It will be implemented in close collaboration with the Jordan’s Department of Palestinian Affairs and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

Hitteen Camp, also known as Marka Camp, dates back to 1968. It currently hosts around 53,000 Palestinian residents. (@OnuItalia)
