UNCITRAL: Amb. Lepre met Secretary Joubin-Bret in Vienna

VIENNA, JANUARY 26 – The Italian Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Debora Lepre, had today an “excellent” meeting  with the Secretary of UNCITRAL, Anna Joubin-Bret.

“Italy is committed to advance international trade law, with high-level participation from qualified experts at Commission and Working Groups. Effective multilateralism is also about strong legal instruments”, the Italian mission remarked on X.

The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) is the core legal body of the United Nations system in the field of international trade law. A legal body with universal membership specializing in commercial law reform worldwide for over 50 years, UNCITRAL’s business is the modernization and harmonization of rules on international business.

UNCITRAL was established by the General Assembly in 1966 (Resolution 2205(XXI) of 17 December 1966). In establishing the Commission, the General Assembly recognized that disparities in national laws governing international trade created obstacles to the flow of trade, and it regarded the Commission as the vehicle by which the United Nations could play a more active role in reducing or removing these obstacles.

Anna Joubin-Bret is the ninth Secretary the Commission since it was established by the General Assembly. Prior to her appointment on 24 November 2017, Ms. Joubin-Bret practiced law in Paris, specializing in International Investment Law and Investment Dispute Resolution. She focused on serving as counsel, arbitrator, mediator and conciliator in international investment disputes. She served as arbitrator in several ICSID, UNCITRAL and ICC disputes. Prior to 2011 and for 15 years, Ms. Joubin-Bret was the Senior Legal Adviser for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). (@OnuItalia)
