VIENNA, NOVEMBER 27 – Ambassador Debora Lepre, the Permanent Representative of Italy to the Internationals organizations in Vienna, was elected today by acclamation as President of UNIDO 20th General Conference.
“Italy will lead the session responsibly, to promote effective multilateralism and in line with the Vienna spirit of consensus, to strengthen UNIDO as a great project-based organization”, the Italian Mission said on a post on X.
The General Conference (GC) is UNIDO’s supreme policymaking organ where all Member States meet once every two years. It determines the guiding principles and policies of the Organization, approves the budget and work programme of UNIDO. Every four years, the GC appoints the Director-General. The GC also elects the members of the Industrial Development Board and the Programme and Budget Committee. Th 20th Conference will be held until December 1.
