Arts and Human Rights: Italy organizes exhibition in Geneva

GENEVA, NOVEMBER 13 – In the framework of the campaign promoted by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Italy is organizing a contemporary art exhibition entitled “Art and Human Rights” which will be held at the Palais des Nations from 4 to 15 December under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic.

The adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN General Assembly on 10 December 1948 represented one of the most important achievements accomplished by the international community since the end of the Second World War and has been the basis for the development of a global system for the promotion and protection of human rights.

“As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we are called to recognize the enormous progress made, but also to reflect about the multiple challenges that currently stand in the way of the full enjoyment of all human rights by every person and the achievement of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, the Italian Mission in Geneva said on its website.

This initiative has been conceived by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and by the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations in Geneva, in collaboration with Associazione Genesi and with the support of the Italian Institute of Culture in Zurich. The exhibition, curated by Ilaria Bernardi, will display the works of sixteen Italian artists including some prominent artists of Italy’s contemporary artistic panorama such as Michelangelo Pistoletto, Emilio Isgrò and Mimmo Jodice, together with younger talents who have emerged recently embracing new visions.

The exhibition aims to raise awareness and trigger further reflection on human rights worldwide, in particular freedom of expression and opinion, access to education and the elimination of all forms of violence and discrimination, as well as current issues such as the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment and the right to health.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 4 to 15 December 2023 (9:00-17:00). Please note that to enter the Palais des Nations a mandatory online registration is required thought the following link (UN badge holders exempted):
