NEW YORK, JANUARY 18 – The Italian Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, met today with Giovanna Ceglie, Director of the UN Global Service Center in Brindisi. It was an opportunity to reiterate Italy’s pride in hosting this crucial facility, a true operational arm capable of offering concrete solutions to the whole UN family.
The first woman in her position, Ceglie arrived at the GSC in August 2019 from UNIDO where she specialized in private sector support policies for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. As UNIDO Regional Director based in Cairo, from 2011 till 2019, she led policy dialogue and implementation of sustainable industrialization initiatives in several countries in the Arab region, focusing on agro-industrial value chain development, cleaner production and resource efficiency, small and medium enterprise promotion and job creation, renewable energy.
She is a passionate advocate for the sustainable development goals and received an environmental award in 2019 for championing sustainability initiatives in Egypt. Prior to her position in Cairo, she led the UNIDO programme for clusters, value chains and business linkages providing technical assistance and policy advice to over 30 developing countries.
