NEW YORK, 2 DECEMBER – The Italian Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, met his US colleague, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, on a complicated issue that has been at the heart of the United Nations debate for decades. On the table of the “fruitful” talks was the proposal of the group Uniting for Consensus for the reform of the Security Council.
The UfC proposal “could make the UN’s highest political governing body more democratic, representative, effective and transparent”, the Italian mission to the UN said on Twitter.
The meeting – explained Thomas-Greenfield – is part of a series of contacts that she is making on the Security Council’s reform issue. The American ambassador welcomed the ideas of the Uniting for Consensus group “with the aim of working with stakeholders to enlarge and modernise the Security Council”. (@OnuItalia)
