NEW YORK, 16 JUNE – In an interview for the English-language podcast of the Italian Mission “Voices from the Glass Palace”, Marcello Grosso, Head of Sustainable Development Risk and Compliance of Poste Italiane, explained why the Italian company, founded 160 years ago, is today one of the advanced tips of Global Compact Network Italia, a national network linked to the Global Compact of the United Nations.
121 thousand employees, more than half of whom are women, 12 thousand post offices and 35 million customers: these are the numbers of Poste Italiane. Marcello Grosso, recently appointed Italian “SDG Pioneer” for 2022, highlighted the commitment of the group to implement the principles of the Global Compact that encourage companies around the world to adopt sustainable policies, respecting corporate social responsibility, and making public the results of the actions undertaken. The UN Global Compact includes more than 15,000 companies from all over the world, including more than 400 in Italy.
“Poste Italiane has changed over the years. It has grown with Italy, accompanying the country in its development,” said Grosso. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with its 17 Objectives (“Sustainable Development Goals-SDGs”) is the guiding principle of the latest strategic plan launched by the company, which guides the recent initiatives of Poste Italiane for a “responsible” growth of his business. “We realized as a consequence of Covid that the path of sustainability was the right choice to make the business more resilient”, added the manager from Poste Italiane, whose most recent initiatives include over ten projects financed in the field of gender equality and support for women victims of violence, plus investments in the field of renewable energy, for a low-carbon transition of its logistics, also through a complete renewal, by 2022, of its fleet of vehicles thanks to the switch to low-emission engines: this one in particular in line with Goal 9 of the UN Sdgs.
Among the topics discussed in the episode of the podcast, Marcello Grosso also focused on the great commitment of Poste Italiane for the territory and community, with the target of offering zero emission services in 800 small Italian municipalities and in 35 historic centres by 2024.
The episode, included in the series “CommITted Enterprises“, is part of a campaign in support of Italian companies committed to sustainable innovation at the UN, and aimed at sharing their good practices: so far, the heads of the Italian network of the Global Compact, of Enel and of the aerospace giant Leonardo have been among the guests of the podcast.
