NEW YORK, AUGUST 30 – “As a strong supporter of multilateralism, Italy looks forward to closely working together on climate, global health, human rights-women’s rights and youth”, the Italian Permanent Representative, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, told the President-elect of the next General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid.
The meeting offered an opportunity for Massari to reiterate Italy’s strong support for Shahid “Presidency of Hope”. The two-times Foreign Minister of the Maldives was elected to serve as President of the 76th session of the GA on 7 June 2021. In accordance with the established regional rotation, the President session was chosen from the Group of Asia-Pacific States.
Shahid suggested to Member States the following theme for the 76th session: “Building resilience through hope – to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainability, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of people, and revitalize the United Nations”.
