Tuscany invites to visit UNESCO sites: from Medici’s fruit to Assassin’s Creed

FLORENCE, JANUARY 6 – From the citrus fruits of the Medici family’s orchards to the sites of the popular videogame Assassin’s Creed 2, as well as more traditional stops, such as those dedicated to great cathedrals and small parish churches. Tuscany recently launched a portal which gives the opportunity to visit its World Heritage Sites: included on the UNESCO’s lists are the historic centers of Florence, Siena, Pienza and San Gimigniano, Piazza del Duomo in Pisa, the villas and gardens of the Medici family, and the Val d’Orcia.

On the portal it is possible to find the most unusual itineraries, and get suggestions for an informed visit, through photos and posts published by users who have visited and tagged these sites on the ‘Social Wall’. In view of the celebrations in 2021 of the 700th anniversary of the birth of Dante Alighieri, a Dante’s Journey app, called “traveler par excellence”, was launched. The app allows you to learn more about the world in which the illustrious Florentine poet lived, the customs and traditions of the time and its most significant historical figures.

“World Heritage Sites were not built in a day. To appreciate the value of these places, one must visit them without being in a hurry. This is what Tuscany invites you to discover, taste, protect and love,” explains the Region, as it invites you to visit its UNESCO sites through unusual itineraries. For example, “Not only at the table. The art of taste among museums and gardens” explores the theme of food and wine from a unique perspective: learning about history through the experience of cooking, and the Tuscan flora and fauna. One example are the large canvases in which the court painter Bartolomeo Bimbi highlighted the “biodiversity”, diseases and pests of the seasons, which he painted with a punctilious perfection using the knowledge of the greatest botanists of the time.
