Former Italian PM Mario Monti to address WHO ministerial meeting

COPENAGHEN, SEPTEMBER 10 – Health ministers and public health leaders from the 53 countries of the WHO European Region will meet virtually on 14–15 September 2020 for a 2-day session of the WHO regional governing body. They will discuss the Region’s COVID-19 response and WHO/Europe’s 5-year strategy for health, known as the European Programme of Work 2020–2025, which includes provisions to support Member States’ pandemic recovery plans.

On the opening day of the 70th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe (RC70), WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and WHO Regional Director for Europe, Hans Henri P. Kluge, will report on the state of health in the world and in the European Region, including lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Four special guests will address the Committee, including former Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti, currently Chair of the Pan-European Commission on Health and Sustainable Development and President of Bocconi University. The other guests are Queen Mathilde of Belgium, Princess Mary of Denmark, and Stella Kyriakides, the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety. (@OnuItalia)
