NEW YORK, OCTOBER 30 – Addressing a meeting of the Peacebuilding Commission on the situation in the Central African Republic, the Italian Deputy Permanent Representative at the UN Stefano Stefanile confirmed that “Italy is ready to invest great effort in promoting the full implementation of the Bangui peace agreement, even through the support of the facilitating dialogue action conducted by the Community of Sant’Egidio. The 2020/2021 elections in the Central African Republic represent an important step for the country’s democracy, which the UN and the international community will be called on to support.”
Stefanile added that “Italy’s effort is multidimensional. We support the role of the UN Mission MINUSCA, of the Commission and of the Fund for the Consolidation of Peace in guiding the Central African Republic in its path towards stability and development”. The Deputy Permanent Representative furthermore reminded of Italy’s participation in the European mission EUTM, which conducts activities to reinforce institutional capacities, while is currently financing humanitarian interventions worth 15 million euros, in line with the commitment made at the Bruxelles Conference for the 2017-2019 triennium.
