Expo 2020: Di Maio, pavilion will be a journey into a sustainable and innovative Italy

MATERA, OCTOBER 21 – “The theme of beauty as an instrument for connection and knowledge will go beyond the exhibition space. Italy’s pavilion at EXPO 2020 in Dubai will be a journey into an innovative and sustainable Italy,” the Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio said on Sunday at the ‘1 Year to Go’ event: a symbolic passing of the torch from Expo Milano 2015 to Expo Dubai 2020, at exactly one year from its opening. Abdallah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Emirates Foreign Minister attended Sunday’s event.

The content of the Italian pavilion for Expo Dubai 2020 was presented at the event. “Beauty connects People” will be the theme, with the goal to showcase the cultural identity, creativity and productivity of Italy. The internationally recognized excellences of the “Brand Italy” will be presented: arts and science, tradition and technology, creativity and beauty. These will be introduced as instruments for the promotion of dialogue between cultures and for the design of a future world. Among the speakers in Matera were also Lorenzo Fioramonti, Minister of Education, University and Research, and Paolo Glisenti, the Italian Government’s Commissioner General for Expo 2020 Dubai. Partner firms and pavilion sponsors were also present: Fincantieri, Boero, ENI, Leonardo, ENEL X, Mapei, TOLO Green.

“Italy will bring an Innovation Hub to Expo 2020, a pavilion characterized by an innovative structure, inspired by the highest levels of sustainability and circular economy. It will not only be an exhibition space, but also a demonstration of Italian competences and the best national talent”, said Glisenti.

Expo Dubai 2020, which will run between October 20th 2020 and April 10th 2021, is the first Universal Exhibition organized by an Arab Country and will be dedicated to the theme of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. Italy was the first G7 country to formalize its participation. Italy at Expo Dubai 2020 will offer the over 25 million expected visitors a memorable immersive experience on a surface of 3,500 square meters, while the hulls of three boats will be used as a ceiling. The project aims to integrate sustainable materials -like orange peels, coffee buds, mushrooms and recycled plastic collected from the ocean- as elements of construction. (SB@OnuItalia)
