Climate: Federica Gasbarro and Federico Brocchieri are the two young Italians at the Youth Climate Summit

NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 21st – She contributed to building Fridays for Future in Rome, he is a young prodigy in environmental studies. Student Federica Gasbarro and climate researcher Federico Brocchieri are the young Italians representatives at the UN Youth Climate Summit, taking place today in New York. The star of the Summit, wanted by Secretary General Antonio Guterres to reunite young climate leaders worldwide, is the Swedish sixteen year old Greta Thunberg, who has become the symbol of her generation’s motivation to fight for the future of the planet.

24 years old and from Rome, Federica studies Natural Sciences. Federico, 27 and also from Rome, is a graduate of environmental engineering and economics. Since 2011 he has been participating at UN climate conferences. He has build partnerships with the Italian Climate Network and the Institute of services for the agricultural food market (Ismea). In 2015 he collaborated with the mayor of Rome for the climate initiatives. Since 2018 he has been working with Ispra (the center of studies of the Environmental Ministry) and with the euro-mediterranean centre on climate change. The British newspaper The Guardian has nominated him as among the top 12 young environmental activists to follow.

Today’s Youth Climate Summit precedes of two days the Climate Action Summit, to be taking place on the 23rd of September in New York. During this Summit, heads of state and government, entrepreneurs, ONGs and world-wide activists will reunite to discuss the concrete climate actions taken by each actor thus far. Italy will be represented by the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, the Minister of Interior Luigi Di Maio, and the Environmental Minister Sergio Costa. Costa arrived yesterday in New York and will this afternoon address the Youth Climate Summit. Yesterday, Costa asked to meet Federico and Federica in his office, before departing to New York.
