LAMPEDUSA, AUGUST 9 — A delegation of the UNITAR, composed of the division manager Alexander A. Mejia and the consultant Guglielmo Cascioli, visited two days in Lampedusa. During a meeting with the mayor of Lampedusa and Linosa Totò Martello a memorandum of understanding was signed which opens a road for cooperation in regards to topics related to migration to be achieved through training, research and actions for the development and growth of the local community.
The visit falls within the work program of the ‘Forum of mayors’ in the context of the global Council of development and migration. “We have met a reality which can be taken as a model – said Mejia- I thank the mayor for his commitment and express my admiration and gratitude towards Lampedusa and its people”.
UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research) was founded in 1963. Based in Geneva, it focuses on the development of scientific research and most importantly education. (@OnuItalia/ScintillaBenevolo)
