HLPF 2019: IFRC’s President Rocca at the UN to discuss heatwaves emergencies

NEW YORK, JULY 11 – Francesco Rocca, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), will be in New York next week to present new Red Cross guidelines to help cities prepare for heatwaves – extreme weather events that are now among the world’s deadliest types of natural hazard.

Rocca will also discuss the humanitarian consequences of climate change and the first-hand experience of Red Cross Red Crescent volunteers who are responding to the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events.

In a press conference at the United Nations, Mr Rocca will be joined by Julie Arrighi, Red Cross Red Crescent climate expert and co-author of the heatwave guidelines. IFRC is the world’s largest humanitarian network comprising 191 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies working to save lives and promote dignity around the world. (@OnuItalia)
