Aeroporti di Puglia Adheres to Global Compact

BARI, FEBRUARY 12 – Aeroporti di Puglia (ADP), a consortium of airports in Italy’s southern region of Puglia, will adhere to the United Nations’ Global Compact. An international project, with over 9,000 participants in 135 countries, the Global Compact encourages businesses to adopt sustainable and socially responsible practices to favor an international economy that is increasingly more responsible and virtuous.

In ratifying the Global Compact, Aeroporti di Puglia has become the first airport consortium in Italy to formally commit itself in pursuing the documents ten principals, the consortium will focus on topics that relate to human rights, working standards, environmental protection, and fighting corruption. These principals have already been established in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the ILO Declarations, Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the UN Convention against Corruption.

ADP Chairman, Tiziano Onesti, noted that modern businesses, especially those that operate within the public sphere or are involved in managing the services and infrastructure of a community, must calibrate their decisions in a way which focuses on the social-environment while being transparent and noting the fairness of governmental processes. He also highlighted that sustainability must be considered as a paramount consideration in all shareholder decisions so that the proper development of land can lead to positive externalities. Onesti made mention to the European Commission’s recent report which details the practices that need to adopted to reach the goal of a sustainable Europe by 2030.

Aeroporti di Puglia manages a network of airports in Puglia, consisting of airports in Bari, Brindisi, Foggia, and Tatanto Grottaglie. As the only manager of an airport network in the region, ADP has boosted the development of new infrastructure and traffic systems all while constantly improving on the quality standards of the services it provides.
