NEW YORK, JANUARY 31 – The Italian Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Maurizio Massari met today with the Undersecretary General Abdoulaye Mar Dieye, Special Coordinator for Development in the Sahel. The meeting allowed a discussion on the development perspectives in the region and the outcomes of the Italy-Africa summit organized by the Italian government in Rome on January 28-29.
The event brought together Africa’s heads of state and government; top Italian officials including President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni; Chairperson of the African Union, Azali Assoumani; Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki; President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola; President of the European Council, Charles Michel; President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen; Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed and others.
Mr. Dieye is a Senegalese economist and public servant who has been serving as United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres’ Special Coordinator for development in the Sahel since 2021. He previously held various positions within the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). (@OnuItalia)
