COSP 16: Locatelli, extending the European Disability Card to the entire EU

NEW YORK, JUNE 14 – At the margins of the COSP 16 underway at the United Nations Secretariat Building, the Italian Minister for Disabilities Alessandra Locatelli held a series of bilateral discussions. She agreed with Finland’s Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Pekka Puustinen, on the desirability of the EU-wide extension of the European Disability Card at the end of the pilot phase.

Locatelli“We then talked about work integration in the life project, in the light of the ongoing reform in Italy and the recent Finnish Disability Services and Support Act, and we talked about the Expo 2030 Rome bid under the banner of inclusion and accessibility,” the minister said on her social media profiles.

Locatelli also had an extensive exchange of ideas with Canada’s Minister for Employment and Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, Carla Qualtrough: they talked about the need to overcome the fragmentation of sanitary, socio-sanitary, and social support measures to achieve the life project. As well as co-programming and co-design with the organizations of the civil society.

“Also important was the discussion on the need for a meeting on disability as part of the Italian presidency of the G7 in 2024,” Locatelli added.

Other bilateral included those with counterparts from Britain, Australia, Germany, Israel, France, Poland, and Hungary. (@OnuItalia)
