Fulci meets the new Italian JPO Officers in Geneva

GENEVA, DECEMBER 13 – The Italian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Marie Sol Fulci, met by videoconference the new Italian JPOs selected to carry out a period of professional training at some Geneva-based International Organizations and Agencies of the United Nations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO); the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR); the International Organization for Migration (IOM); the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Secretariat of the Minamata Convention on Mercury.

Welcoming the JPOs, the Deputy Permanent Representative stressed that the activities in the organizations, “which address current and internationally relevant issues, such as the situation of refugees and migrants in different continents, health issues such as pandemic control tools, sensitive issues affecting the world of work and environmental issues, will foster your professional growth and enrich your experiences in the field, giving you the opportunity to broaden your perspectives and knowledge.

The Programme, which is the result of an ECOSOC resolution adopted in 1961, offers the possibility for young people qualified in the field of International Relations to carry out a two-year training and professional experience in UN Organizations and Agencies.

For Italy, the initiative is funded through the Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, and is managed by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations (UN/DESA).

Italy, which joined the Programme in the 1970s, has sponsored over 1,700 JPOs (source: UNDESA). (@OnuItalia)
